    Now how about coated brass?

Midsouth Shooter Supply has Starline brass with a Black Oxide coating. Has any used this? I need some 41 Magnum brass, and while more expensive, would sure make sorting the brass from 357 easier.

I would think it would wear off the first time you resized it?

The color is the altered metal itself so it should last. I'm fond of the finds in the oak leaves - some awesome coloring.

I think a coating is the wrong idea, it would change the cartridge dimensions, a chemical conversion solution like brass black might yield better results, but again why would you want to make brass even harder to find?

I have some 380, 45 and 300 BO brass in blk.

It holds up about as one would expect... wears lil more with each firing and re loading.

Some of my BO brass is on its fourth loading and still mostly blk but getting pretty thin.

Watch out for the chemical colorings as it may change the hardness of the brass. For ornamental pieces not an issue if the brass gets slightly brittle but on cases could be an issue.

Another way is to go to nickel plated brass for one and plain brass for the other.

Hey.............he wanted Technicolor brass, so I suggested a method. Never said it would not possibly weaken the walls. Or that I personally would EVERY do it. But it is easily done.

I really see no need for it.
