30 call 150 grain on deer?

I was fooling with some lee 150 flat nose loads yesterday in my 3006 and got a really accurate 100 yard load with 25 grains of 2400. 26 grains was easily minute of deer as well. I'd guess these were around 2000 fps. I really only intend this as.A target load, but would it work as.A 100 yard deer load?

Certainly. What you have there is just about 10% below a 30 30 which has accounted for millions of dead deer.

With cast bullets, it is shot placement.
Cast loads penetrate fine, but the do not dump energy well.

So you compensate, by placing the shot through the lungs, and be ready to follow up.

Shot placement is everything! That type of lead boolet has been taking deer sized critters for a lot of years. That velocity you have achieved will do fine at 100 yds.Robert

Shot placement plays a big part no mater what bullet you shoot. Guys used to jack deer in the 80s around these parts with a spotlight and a 22mag. I think your load will do just fine.

Yeah, I sort of thought so. Really if I am after deer I will either be using 35 Rem at 100 yards or 3006 with a 198 grainer doing 2000+ FPS.

Likely work fine as is. Cast some soft points, bet they will work even better.

I aim for the head. I do not like the taste of antlers.

Yeah!!! Last buck I shot with my old SRC .30WCF using the old standby 311041 was a quartering shot that I screwed up and connected with the left rear leg............bone fragments and bloodspray for several yards around...........deer still traveled about a hundred yards.........but like you said,...... easy tracking to 3/4ths of a deer!

Better placement and a softer alloy would have been a far better call.

you did not say anything about the alloy of lead you are casting.
A hard alloy such as high antimony may not perform so well.
A softer alloy with a tin alloy would be much better.
    What is your alloy?

Took the words outta my mouth.......er, keyboard.
I don't paint bullets. I like Black Rifle Coffee. Sacred cows are always fair game. California is to the United States what Syria is to Russia and North Korea is to China/South Korea/Japan--a Hermit Kingdom detached from the real world and led by delusional maniacs, an economic and social basket case sustained by "foreign" aid so as to not lose military bases.

In this case, AC COWW plus a few percent pewter.
