Here are the results of my range day with the Traditional Hunter in 38-55.
I was shooting a 250 grain plain base bullet cast from a Mountain Molds custom mold. Sized to 376 and lubed with SPG.
9.5 grains of Trail Boss. Fired at 50 yards from a rest.

You have a lot of apparent "flyers" there, with my guess that you are using such a low load of Trail Boss powder. I would try a more appropriate load of a slower rifle powder that is more filling in the case, and maybe some sort of filler to maintain the powder at the bottom of the case.

Good work. A friend of mine in AL has a Ballard repro of the Stevens 44 1/2 in that caliber, and last season, took a deer with it and some near BP equivalent loads. That deer died in its tracks! It really doesn't take all that much to kill a deer, if one simply puts a bullet in the right place, and it has enough penetration to get to the vitals. There's no bullet made for the .38-55 that won't kill a deer effectively. Can't wait to hear of your report of taking a deer with it. Those are VERY nice rifles! A couple of friends have TH's and they make me envious, even with my BPCR! Classy, accurate, strong ..... just grand rifles!

The load nearly reaches the base of the bullet. The high left shot was from the first shot out of a clean bore. I do plan a bit of fine tuning, but I'm thinking it is a good start for a 51 year old and iron sights. I'll also try weight sorting the next batch of bullets.

Forgot to mention that the target is a composite. I photographed it after each three shots.
