IDK if he still is, but Steve Rhoades at Arizona Sharps Shooters might still be making the Hepburn-style side lever conversion of RB's.

Yes, but a Hepburn and a Rolling Block with Hepburn style lever are two different guns. DZ makes a great Hepburn clone also. The side lever conversions were never made in any quantity, early or recently. I believe Dave at Lonestar also made some conversions, but he also has passed on.

I have looked at my rolling blocks and my convert one to a sidelever. would take a modified pin for the block and the side plate. the block would need to be pined or locked to the pin in some form. the action pin also would need to be lengthened for a stud for the lever to attach to. The pin would need to have the other end turned round so it could rotate inside the side plate. The biggest part will be forming a side lever that's cot the right contours and curves to function and be appealing to the eye. This will be harder on the rolling blocks action as its not as deep and long as the hepburns side panels are. Theres just more "room on the Hepburns panels than the rollers.

DeHaas covered the conversion in one of his great books on single shot rifles. I think it was "Gunsmithing Single Shot rifles". I know I've got a copy, and read it, but can't recall all the steps. Have to check my library and see.

That style side lever is pretty basic I believe, and still requires cocking the hammer to operate. There's another conversion that works to move the hammer back to half cock as the lever is operated and allows loading. Then when the lever/block is closed the hammer can be pulled to full cock.

The first Smith to do the side lever roller was Fruend up in Denver. There are his parents drawings of it. He also made an under lever conversion but they are really rare it shows them in the Fruend book.
