    2-2-98 hardness?

What would be the estimated hardness of 2-2-98 alloy?

Using the alloy calculator somewhere around 11 BNH, but probably a little less. It should be probably 96-2-2.

    Yes it is 96.
To me that seems kind of soft for 44 & 45 cal bullets. My estimated velocity would be 1050/1100 fps.
I’m asking because I’ve been thinking of placing an order from GT Bullets and that’s his alloy recipe.

They’re both cast from an NOE mold

My 1.5-1.5-97 casts at 10.5 and ages to 12-13

Hard enough to be very useful for most things I do.

So this is basically what I can expect from a 2-2-96 mix?
And should be perfect from 1000 to 1200 fps?

Pretty much. By way of comparison, I pushed 94-3-3 in gas checked form about 1700 FPS in a rifle with no issues and excellent accuracy.

Elmer Keith generally used 16-1 lead and tin which runs at 11 B.H.N. and used his heavy loads for the .44 Magnum with that.

except clip-ons only have .5% or less tin, loyd im sure you know that, lol, but he might not. just add 1.5-2lbs of tin or pewter to 98lbs of clip ons to get your 2/2/96, or at least close enough. I like to have a minimum 2% tin in all things I cast. it does make a good difference, less fracturing

I’m not casting these Bullets, I’m buying them from GT Bullets. And that is they’re mixture, 2-2-96.
They should arrive to me on Thursday. I basically wanted to know if it was a good mixture.

I've been shooting some 230 grain bullets from GT of that alloy in the 41 magnum, sized .411". With my most accurate load, I'm getting right around 1200 fps from a 6" barrel without problems. I'm not an excellent handgun shooter, but from a rest, I'm averaging about 3" at 50 yards, which beats j-word Remington 210 grain's by a rather large margin. My only complaint is GT shipped them in a soft envelope, and quite a few have a ding in the base. I tossed the bad ones in my pot.

works in my 44 mag at least to about 1250-1300! ( 275gr boolit, 21grs of 296, 7.5" barrel )and it will expand at that speed too. with the right lube ( I use a softer lube) and proper sizing, my barrel will stay almost shiny clean too, no leading! my keith style SWC expand a bit past full width, I would say the mushroom is .60 ( that's in really soft, loose dirt, so probably close to what it would do in an animal, haven't got one with it yet, just got it maybe 2 months ago. for a rifle it should be good, I would probably heat treat them, (although not to the max)

I say "almost shiny clean" only because I use a homemade moly- mix lube, and moly leaves a bit of grey residue, of which is no consequence.
