Lee 456-220-1r in a ML rifle

Has anyone tried the Lee 456-220-1r as a conical in a .45 ML rifle? I don't mean putting it in a sabot, but to shoot it much the same as a Lee REAL conical.

If I understand the design, it also has a taper towards the base to allow easier loading.

I did it years ago, likely mid 70's. I just can't recall if the result was good or bad. My Lee 456 mold when cast with pure clip-ons drops closer to 452.

I’m a big believer in using 45 caliber handgun bullets for 45 caliber muzzleloader‘s. I have a CVA round ball twist Kentucky rifle that I hunted with a 255 grain lee RF for a few years. According to standard wisdom, That bullet is not supposed to stabilize in a 1 in 66 twist, but it did stabilize and actually shot fairly well! I would imagine the 252 grain swc would be a good choice in a muzzleloader also.

Haven't tried that one in a rifle, just .45Colt and ACP.
The short bearing length could be pretty tough to keep straight muzzleloading it.
    The SWC's though, not bad.

Is that teflon tape 'round those boolits? How many wraps do you use? Do you pull it - snap - instead of cutting it?

What is your twist rate, and depth of rifling?
I have slow twist and deep grooves:

Mine is just a Cabela's (Investarms) sporterized Hawken. So it's probably a 1:48" twist, shallow groove.

Those are two layer wet paper patched for my .458 bore New Englander.
