Stevens Model 94 Series M question

I have a Stevens Model 94 Series M single shot shotgun, the ejector is broken and I was wondering if I can make one from readily available/cold rolled steel or if it needs to be a more specific steel?
Maybe just a regular old piece of flat stock and quench hardened? Your opinions and ideas are of value, thanks.

I'm no expert but I think your first choice would work fine. I fashioned a firing pin for a Sav 94 out of a nail once and it may still be working wherever it is.

Thanks for your input, I have a piece of cold rolled flat the proper thickness from local hardware store that I will try to make one from.
