    .458 Socom

I have been reading up on this caliber and like it for a cast boolit gun on the AR-15 platform. My understanding is all that is needed for the conversion is a barrel and a bolt. Is that correct? What about twist rate for 400 gn. cast boolits?
What length gas tube is needed or desired for a 16" barrel?
What is the most common size gas block for the .458 socom barrel?
Best vendors that sell the parts I need?

Here is a bit of my take, standby for better info from those that really know.
Barrel and bolt are all you need if you have an upper with enlarged ejection port.
Any barrel over, I think 12 inches, will stabilize in the normal 1-14".
Shorter barrels shooting subs need the 1-10"
I seem to hear either carbine or pistol for running a can. With carbine for non suppressed.
Gas blocks can be different based on supplier. Mostly .875".
    Those that purport to know, say only approved vendors;

    Rock River Arms
    Southern Ballistic Research (SBR Ammunition)
    Tromix
    SSK Industries (J.D. Jones)
Paladin Machine, per request from buyer and Marty
    Red Creek Tactical
    Satern barrels via Brownells

Tromix seems to be the best known and closest to the originator, Marty of Teppo Jutsu.

I will stand aside now and let someone that is fortunate enough to actually own one of these fine tools speak.

    You pretty much nailed it
Reg 223 mags . they will be single stack in the socom
Make sure you either get or make the enlarged ejection port. Very very important
A 16" carbine length is about perfect for most applications
Especially if deer hunting 150 or so yds
I shoot both subs and supers
Personally i would go either RRA or Tromix
