Doing the bottom metal first gives you a way to keep the action going in straight.
Feminine protection by Smith & Wesson
That is correct. Not set in stone, but that's how the books teach it, and how most stockmakers do it.
Do bottom metal first you will have better looking finished results
Doing the barreled action first sets you up with lots of problems to proceed past that point. Always bottom first.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!
Makes sense. That’s what I have been doing in the past until I read a how-to on another site. Thanks for confirming my thoughts!

It's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years (Abe Lincoln)
"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.” George Washington
Nothing to add except to use headless guard screws to guide the barreled action into the previously inletted bottom metal.
