re: Barnes, I don't think he was wrong in his measurement of "bullet dia" at 0.439". BUT they were patched, double wrap, which brings the "PROJECTILE DIA " up about 10 thou's to about 0.448". All of our lives would be better if Barnes OR all the die makers had taken that into account. Then we would have gotton usable necking tools first time round. It's a pet peeve of mine.
rmcc- should you do a chamber casting, you may want to pull the block out first. don't ask me why

Ok....bought the Werndl. Come to find out, it is an 1867 that has NOT been altered. Now I have found a lot of info on the 11.15 x 58R, can even buy loaded rounds for it. 11.15 x 42R, not so much info out there on that one!! Any ideas, help, or conversion data would be much appreciated!! By the way, bore was absolutely pristine!! Bright shiny with strong, sharp rifling!! I guess it had been in the family when they immigrated to the US who knows how long ago.

    Thanks,

Cool ! Glad to hear you were able to get it.
Do you plan on loading it with BP or smokeless powder ? I like shooting smokeless because it easy, cleaner, and there is many choices to try.
I would still do a chamber cast on it to be sure what you have.
Best of Luck getting it all figured out and get it back shooting again.

Was a GREAT Sunday!! Shot the Werndl!! Used Bertram brass, 27.8gr of IMR 4198, 360 gr soft lead bullet, and Rem LR primer. Recoil was almost non-existent!! As to be expected with the load, it shot about 8" high at 50 yds. Windage was right on. I really "hand loaded" 5 rounds, so now I will go ahead and order dies so I can neck size or I am looking at 11mm Mauser dies. $30 vs $220??

    Let me think???????????
I used either a 41 or 44 Mag die to necksize, do not remember if it was the size or seating die?

I'll be following this....and maybe chiming in here in the coming weeks. I won what I believe to be an 1867/77 in an auction over the weekend. Pretty fair shape, I believe.....guess I'll know when it gets here. I have some 348 brass I put back a while ago (bought it here, I believe) as I have been wanting a Werndl for some time now.

......and the kid at Christmas game begins.
