    RELOAD 7,5x55 SWISS IN K-31

    Good morning,
I am writing from Italy and I ask you to excuse my English (I use the Google translator!)
As I wrote in my previous post, I bought the Lee CTL 312-160-23 mold, DIAMETER 312 WEIGHT 160 GR.
The problem is the dust! In Italy the law on the importation and shipment of gunpowder is very restrictive, and the availability of powders is very scarce. IN THEORY, the powders for which there is an import license are those in the link:
    https://docs.google.com/viewerng/vie...te-powder-.pdf
IN PRACTICE, however, many powders are not imported either for reasons related to the manufacturer, or for reasons related to the importer / local seller (for example low demand).
I haven't found any data on reloading with lead bullets on the internet.
I am also attaching a table of the burning rate, but I don't trust this data very much!
I can't find the reload data on our Cast Boolits forum (sorry but I'm VERY old!): can you show me the section or links where to find them?
I would be very grateful if you could tell me which powder to use? I saw that you highly recommend the # 2400 (# stands for AA?): but which company produces it? Alliant?
I see this powder is equivalent to the IMR 800X and Tecna which I both own. It should also be similar to the Lovex D060., But I can't find equivalent powders from Withavuori (widespread in Italy) and reloading data for reloading with lead bullets

What powders are available to you?
I use the same bullet as you, sized to .309.
I use red dot and 5744 powder.

Look at Lovex powders. Accurate 5744 is Lovex D060. Lovex S040 appears to be a clone of Alliant 2400. Both work great in my K31 with Lee 150gr and 200gr bullets. I found that the nose of. 312-185 too big to chamber. If you can get Vectan powders Tubal 2000 is good.

I bought the LEE .308 and the LEE .309
As powders I have the X-800 and the Tecna.
In one table, as I said they give them similar to the AA 2400, but in many other tables they give the X-800 a little livelier/rapid than the 2400.
I found X-700 data on a Lyman manual for the .308 (9 gr) and 30-06 Springfield (10 gr), but with very light bullets (115 gr).
The X-800 is more progressive than the X-700, and therefore MAYBE better suited to 160g bullets.
Does anyone use these powders or have the reloading manuals?
These are the tables I found:
    https://www.appuntidiricarica.com/bu...te-chart-.html
    https://www.tiropratico.com/htm/tabe...ve_polveri.htm
As you can see everyone has different data!
I can see what Armories have available in Italy!
Chi produce la 5744? Accurate? Mi pare non è importata in Italia!

I am trying N540 in a 30-30, 26.5gr with a 180 grain Saeco. So far it is showing some promise.
I also tried N140, but it was not very good, groups were very big.

I used to compete in High Power matches with one of my Swiss K-31's using cast bullets. Initially I used a 155 gr. FP bullet and 6.7 grains of Alliant Bullseye, which is a very fast burning powder. Velocity was around 1050 fps and the load was quite accurate.

I later switched to 13.0 grains of Alliant Red Dot (which is similar to 700-X) with a heavier bullet-

    Hope this helps.

America is a paradise to dream of for us Italians who love weapons and its accessories!
The supply of powders is subject to very restrictive import laws and licences, and once found you cannot keep more than a certain quantity: maximum 3 kg, including the powder contained in the cartridges!!! Added to this is the fact that the packs that when I was a boy were of 100 grams, now are at least 500 grams. For this reason, apart from the purchase cost, you are forced to buy only packs of 500 grams, which if not they're fine, they stay at home unused, and if the police come, they confiscate everything: weapons, cartridges, powder, equipment and firearms license!
As I said I have 500 grams of X-800, 500 of Tecna, and 500 of the very old Norma 203 (not the new 203-B!) that I used to reload the 222 Rem (the only powder I could find!
Realize that the .308 Winch could not be used and held. because it is considered a weapon of war |
I have many doses for the powders you indicated (Alliant Bullseye, #2400, Red Dot) but where can I find them? Maybe not even when I die in Heaven, because God doesn't care for Italians!
The Red Dot in certain tables give it superimposable with the Lovex D032, the W. 231, the WW N320: but who uses these powders in the forum?
The #2400 gives it similar to Lovex D037
for the X-800 I found this data for 30-06 spr., 8x57:

    800-X 12 g / 160 g for 30-06 Spr. they can be reduced to 10 g/160 g for the 7.5x55 Swiss without risk

If I were in your place, knowing what I know now, I would use, with a few exceptions, whatever shotgun/handgun powder were available. Years ago I purchased an 8 lb. (3.6s Kg) jug of Accurate #7 at a gun show simply because it was very inexpensive. More out of curiosity than anything, I tried it in my 7.5x55's and my 30-06's. It works very, very well!!
One thing to be advised of regarding 800-X- It is a very coarse powder and does not meter well through powder measures.

AIRONE, you said that Vihtavuori is widespread in Italy? N120 is a must try, 7,5x55 is slightly bigger in case capacity vs. 7,62x53R/54, and somewhat smaller vs. .30-06Spr... I've had good results with both using N120, tried also N133 and N530, N120 is the one to go. Also pistol powder N310 is excellent, clean and quiet, and if available you may want to try N32C "Tinstar" which takes more room by the weight. My loads have been with 311466, 314299, 311407 (Ghargar gb), all works well with 1,5...1,55 grams N120 (I have notes between 1,3...1,6 grams), and 0,7...0,75 grams N310 (no fooling around with this one since double charge is bad mistake). Searching for equivalent powders in order to duplicate something is very time consuming, I was on that road also, but iirc it was felix in this forum (or earlier version), who said N120 is the one to go. I use N120 also in 45-70, but it needs upper end loads to keep accuracy and low es+sd figures, nothing like "plinker" in 16" bbl Marlin.

    Grazie Finlandese 45
Credo allora che la migliore scelta sia la W. N32C Tinstar che dovrebbe riempire meglio il bossolo ma quale dosaggi e con quali palle?

Yes Tinstar fills the case better, but it's still pistol powder, quickload estimates that N320 has a little less oomph than N310, and N32C has it clearly less than N310, so 0,7g...0,8g would be easy starting point, probably not plugging the barrell yet, watch your velocities. My firts note from 2007, boolit is on the right in my avatar:
165grains, .313" true dia, three grooves exposed, N310 0.7grams/10.8grains, 1465fps, Lapua brass, Federal GM210M primer
That is 7,62x53R, used also pistol primer, no big differense, very accurate, and similar result with 311466 (left in my avatar), and also 314299 (with same charge) which is way heavier but my memory escapes with the numbers here... with these charges I don't believe in possibility to vedi Napoli yet, going smaller charge results sub-sonic and too small leaves the boolit in the barrel, too much powder clings the snot out and might broke something so go with small increments and watch the velocity.
If you want to go with rifle powder, then N120 couple of notes m39 7,62x53R (and very similar from .30-06 Sako Finnbear:
    311407, N120 1,55g, 1830fps
    314299, N120 1,5g, 1710fps
Both outshoots my abilities with open sights and with N120 you can go up watching your leading and spread on the target, and I've shot those as low as 1,3g N120.

Of course you need a boolit that fits, if that Lee chambers normally gas check inside the neck, why not, lube might be the limitation reaching higher velocities.

Scusami Finlandese 45 ma WW N32C Tinstar a quali dosaggi va usato con Lee 150 gr g.c. ?

Excuse me Finnish 45 but WW N32C Tinstar at what dosages should it be used with Lee 150 gr g.c. ? IF YOU FIND IT!!!
In summary, the 800-X is on the same level as the following poor ones that are most cited in US manuals: HERCO, WW3N37. A little more progressive are the other two powders very similar and much mentioned in American manuals, AA 2400, IMR 4227 and WW 120.
Going to the Lyman manuakle, I see that for the 30-30 with 170 gr lead bullet they report 9 / 11.5 gr by Herco, while for the 30-06 Spr. always with 170 gr lead bullet, marked 12,5 7 16 gr by Herco.
They also cite the 700-X much livelier than the 800-X in doses of gr. 10 / 14 with ball of gr 115 (very light).
    For 30.30 W. they report Herco gr. 9 / 11.5 with 170 gr bullet
For the 308 W. they report for the 700-X gr 9 / 12,5 with the light 115 gr., while for Unique (a little faster than the 800.-X and Herco) they bear 9.8 / 13 g with a 160 g ball

At this point I ask you if I could use a starting dose of gr. 10 for ka 800-X with 160 g bullet.
The problem is that I don't want to throw away an almost new 500 g pack of 800-X!

There's no data for N32C for some particular boolit in some particular rifle, but there's user examples... If I would be doing it, I would start for example 0,7g N32C and see my ways how it goes. I also don't find it necessary to split hair with boolit weight to the single grains, I've loaded 0,75g N310 also for 45-70 with 300 grainer 1170fps, and 400 grainer 1020fps, flexible anb versatile low pressure loads, lighter goes faster, heavier is slower.

And I have nothing for 800-x, but below is some references, also link to gmdr.com with lots of data also for VV N3x0:

ho passato un pò di tempo a cercare su internet.
Ho trovato che la 800-X, da tanti ritenuta unza buona polvere, è identica alla HERCO.
Un articolo di Harris parla di cariche per il 308 W. (molto simile alla 7,5x55 Swiss) di 8 / 9 gr.
    https://www.castpics.net/subsite2/Cl...y%20rifles.pdf
