I need some help with an mould ID ....

No pics yet but I think I bought an 8 cavity H&G #68 . The poor thing looks like it was under the hood if a John Deere for about 10 yr 20 yr ago .

The clam shell handles look right , as does the sprue plate and screws and of course the bullet . Most of the pics in other threads are gone ....

    I appreciate the guidance .

If it’s a H&G mold it should have their name and the city they were located in along with a mold number stamped on it. Google should be able to find lots of images of your mold. If it’s rusty Evaporust will do a good job cleaning it up but will remove any blueing. If it’s just dirty dish soap and a tooth brush will clean it up. There’s a lot of good info on the H&G web site.

    Looks to be an H & G 130, 185 gr. 45 ACP boolit.
Knock the lead out\off and soak it in CLR as per instructions. A mild toothbrush to scrub it and heat it up some to remove the moisture. Then oil the handle, set and hold down screws with marvel mystery oil or kroil to make them come out with ease.
Remove the oil and clean the handles and mould as required.

    Worth saving.

It still needs proper wood handles , but , a guy simply cast a new mould just to see if it is any good .

It is a good one , it throws all 8 within 1.5 gr and .0015.
    Worth every penny .

I don't have any 8-bangers, but I do have a 4 and a few 2's and at least one 1. Both the George Hensley and the Hensley and Gibbs logos are very faintly stamped or maybe electroetched on the lower part of the left side blocks. A little rust or even patina, and you will need the light just right, a magnifying glass and a good long lookover to distinguish it.

I sometimes have trouble seeing the ones on some of mine that I've found before and know they're there.

The mould number is usually stamped pretty deep on the upper right side of the blocks, though.

After I got 20 yr of neglect scrapped off it was pretty clear .
Based on research it was made between 64'-70' .

My skills as a restoration expert leave much to be desired . I'm quite happy however to have made.it a serviceable tool again .

I wonder if flipping the handles will help with the alignment pin bump . I almost want to make a Lee 6 cavity type 3rd handle even if it is a clamp on affair to avoid the necessity of blunt force for sprue cutting .
