    And yet another update on Joe...from San Antonio

    His speech is improving daily, and he’s mobile. Unfortunately, his right arm is still next to nothing. He’s not super chatty, like he was, but I can imagine life’s pretty frustrating at the moment. I’m going to try to get down to see him next weekend.

    For those not “in the know”, Joe had a stroke a while back and spent some time in a rehab facility, and has since been released from there.

    Glad to hear of his progress. My wife had a severe stroke in 2010, and I can tell you that all of the conventional wisdom about strokes and recovery is correct. You will get about 95% of all the recovery that you are going to get in the first year, and after 18 months there is little change. Personality-wise, you seldom get back exactly the same person you had before the incident. Best wishes to Joe, and I'll mention him again in my prayers.
