Here is an original Wesson single-shot breechloading carbine in good condition. This .44 caliber, ‘two-trigger’ rimfire or Centerfire, Wesson military carbine is one of some 4,500 carbines produced at Worcester, Mass.
The two-line maker address found on to stampings read “F. WESSON’S PATENT / OCT. 25, 1859 / B. KITTREDGE & CO. / CINCINNATI. O.” Records indicate that 1,366 Wesson ‘Kittredge-marked’ carbines were supplied to state units from Kentucky. A tip-up style action utilized with the froward trigger acting as the release for the barrel.

That's cool, sent a PM with questions.
I was a dog on a short chain.
    Now there's no chain.

Honestly this is driving me crazy. I already have a Marlin/Ballard addiction that I am struggling with. I really need to stay clear of other temptations.

    Good morning
What is the bore condition on this Wesson ?
If this is a good shootable "minute of groundhog" barrel and working out my unique "getting funds to you" issue I will buy this nice old rifle for $625 shipped. PM follows.

I had one of these quite a few years ago in my collection - I sold it when I downsized. Mine also ad the B F Kittredge post production stampings. I don't remember how many were finished in the contract for use in the CW but evidently, Kittredge, which if I remember correctly was a large sporting goods type supplier in Chicago, was able to fill the contract. This was originally a "civilian" rifle/short rifle but was very adaptable for carbine use. Over the years, I have seen probably 3 or 4 impose of the cartridge box that was furnished for these - it was a belt pouch but much of it was constructed from brass IIRC and are quite a rare cartridge box. I never shot mine but the rifling on mine was pretty heavy although some pitting from use. They are a neat little piece of history!
