Why is theirs split on the bottom? M14 front sight is 5/8x24 threaded - you can find other slip on sights like for the Ruger Mini-30 that your gunsmith/machinist can thread for you.

It acts like a barrel clamp locking the front sight in place instead of a timed shoulder. M14 also includes a flash hider and smaller dia ring with alighnment splines in it. There were some made during the ban with out the flash hider. What your showing wouldn't be to rough to make from a block of steel in a good mill.
