    WTB: .526 RB mold

    Hello friends,

I would like to buy a round ball mold in .526" diameter. Single or dual cavity. If you have one you would like to sell please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Steve in N CA

I have a old Ideal 28 ga single cavity mold that I will sell. The ball casts at .520-.522 depending
on where you put the calipers. Nice shape, no rust or pitting. $50.00 shipped. Will this work
for you? Or is it too small?

It may be too small. I want it for my 54 cal Lyman GPR. I ordered some "store bought" .526 balls and they shoot great for what I do.

If you don't mind let me think about it for a while.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have the Lyman GPR in .54 cal myself. I shoot a .530 or .535 rbs, I just use different
thicknesses of lubed patching. Why do you think you need a .526 dia ball? Unless
the newer GPR's are bored undersize.

When I shoot for accuracy I load a .530" ball with a .015" or .018" patch with mink oil. It works great.

But I tried a woods walk shoot at a local club and I liked it. I loaded a .526" ball with a .010" patch over 30 gr of FFG. The longest shots were 25 yards or so. The smaller ball worked great at that distance.

I was thinking that a smaller ball would be even easier to load with the wooden ramrod and then I wouldn't have to carry a separate loading rod like I do at the bench.

So it boils down to my laziness! Ha!
