Rossi Loading Gate Problem - last cartridge loaded hangs on the front edge of gate

My loading gate spring broke, so I had to have it replaced.

External inspection is okay, but the surface of the gate does seem to be sunken in/recessed more than I remember the old one being. Hard to say as I don't have an image to compare to.

Cartridges insert fine, the issue is that after loading the base of the last cartridge loaded tends to want to stick on the inside edge of the loading gate rather than slipping in behind it. Net result - failure to feed. My workaround is to double check by taking the point of my knife - insert at the front edge of the gate to make sure the cartridge it slips off the edge and into place behind the loading gate.

45lc - primarily used by CAS.

Thoughts? And is it possible to remove and reinstall the loading gate without fully disassembling the rifle - perhaps through the magazine tube?

    Thanks in Advance,

    Tarheel

I believe you have to tear it down most of the way to get the gate out. The hangup was what mine did, and I spent about an hour polishing and reshaping the leading edge of the gate with a diamond file to make it slip across the base of that last shell better. But once polished it works pretty good. This issue is the main reason why I don't understand the dislike for the henry style tube loading in a pistol cal levergun. It just works better than a loading gate for short, straight wall cartridges. Worth the time to polish the gate though, mine is light years better than it was when I got it.

Thanks - not the news I was hoping for but about what I was expecting. Mine is the stainless as well 20" ten shot, but in 45lc.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... Just take it slow and take pictures at each step. It makes it easy to remember where everything goes...

    .

And, please remember to re-assemble the rifle with an empty cartridge case seated in the boltface, to save yourself some aggravation/frustration.

    Pietro nails it again.
Tarheel- your gate spring needs to be bent a bit.

And you want to stone the leading edge of the loading gate. Will save some wear and tear on fingers too.
