Well, I cleaned it and then shot it before I ever looked at the chamber. I had to beat the bolt open with my hand and here is what found:

Something is not right there. Even with an off-center throat/leade you should not have a split neck.

What is the history of that brass?

And that barrel/rifle should go back. That will never shoot well, no matter the caliber. Give it up and find a new supplier. The one you've been dealing with is selling 'culls'.

Cheap new Wolf steel case ammo. Could be a fluke unrelated to off-center throat. But it's what caused me to look at the chamber.

All three are different manufacturers and came from different suppliers. This last one is a Howa rifle and not a barrel for an AR. I've contacted Howa about replacing the barrel/rifle.

Ok then. I thought I was the only poor son-of-a-gun who gravitated to the worst barrel in the doggone store.

I know how it feels. You find a good factory barrel somewhere, then you go buy yourself a 'powerball' ticket.

    Me? I've given up.

It seems the ways a factory barrel can be jacked-up is as limitless as the number of stars in the heavens.

    YMMV.

A while back I did some work on a couple of military Ross rifles....the bores, chambers and barrel ODs were concentric within .0001 "...the chamber reinforce was concentric with the bore to the extent that I was able to skim the external surface so closely that the raised stamping of the proof marks was removed ,while the blue was just burnished.....made in 1916..

Nice. Wish I could find a barrel like that.

My Howa went to the repair facility. It's been there a week. Estimated repair time is 4-6 weeks.
