    1911 Front Sight

My 1911 front sight is the narrow tenon type. I have a set of Novak sights that I’d like to have installed on my pistol. Problem is the Novak set are dovetail mounts.

Question... can you mill a dovetail through the existing tenon slot or does it need to be tig welded up first?

I have installed dozens of dovetail sights on 1911s no you do not have to tig weld the tenon slot.

    .

No welding needed, but just any dovetail should not be cut, as real Novak sights (there are many knockoffs) use a specifically sized dovetail cut that the knockoff sight makers do not.

Please take a few minutes to read both of the below references - one by Novak, and the other about genuine & knockoff Novak sights.
