I just got back from the range. I got this here 1895 Marlin, in 45/70. I do like it. Well, I just cast some Lee 405 solids, with pure lead. Large heavy bullet.
Loaded her up with 65 gns of Pyrodex. All I can say is wow! What a performer! I was firing at clay pigeons at 50yds. With factory sights, dead on. I also fired at the pieces. Again, dead on. POA.
I only had Pyrodex, not Black Powder.
Good primer signs. Little flattening, no craters. The cases swelled and filled the chamber, no leak back. No darkened cases to speak of. I got lots of 4895, Varget, 4360, but I had never fired pyrodex in a rifle. I am convinced now. I like the 45/70, lots of versatitility.
I like. Clean up should be a snap.
