    The long range shooting season at Rattlesnake is starting soon. See the" March flyer is below. Please help spread the word.

    There will be five Rattlesnake (near Richland WA) Mid-Range & Long Range Matches in 2018; in March, April, July, August, and September. In addition, three NRA-approved Long Range championship matches are scheduled;

    - Washington State Creedmoor Championship, May 18-20
    - Washington State Long Range Championship, June 23-24

    Match Programs and the complete 2018 High Power Calendar are posted on the Tri-cities Shooting Association website at http://www.tcsa.info/disciplines/highpower.

    For anyone new to Rattlesnake, here are a few notes specific to Black Powder shooters.

    - Equipment standards are listed in current NRA Black Powder Target Rifle Rules.

    - No smokeless powder or duplex loads. No jacketed or gas check bullets.

    - Any period metallic or telescopic sights may be used. Shooters using telescopic sights compete in a separate category.

    - Firing will be from the prone position with crossed sticks (Rule 5.5.1) -- or sitting with crossed sticks (Rule 5.7) if the shooter prefers. Crossed Sticks must comply with Rule 3.13(a). However, to prevent erosion of the graveled firing platform, crossed sticks may NOT be inserted into the ground. Instead, crossed sticks may be mounted on a base that provides equivalent support.

    Do you have a picture of what people are using for their cross sticks?

    Shooters are an inventive bunch. Some sticks are complex and highly adjustable, while other sticks are somewhat simple in design. However, all designs must use “cross-sticks” to hold the rifle. It’s the base that varies from the NRA spike or prong requirement. Whatever base is used, it should enable the sticks to safely hold the rifle.

    While not an endorsement of this product, the website below shows an example of a type of cross-sticks (known as a bench cross sticks) that will work.

    This match will be ran using NRA BPTR rule 5.51, which says:

    5.5.1 Prone with Crossed Sticks - Body extended on the ground, head toward the target. In addition to
    the crossed sticks, the rifle may be supported by both hands and one shoulder. While firing with
    crossed sticks, the shooter’s hand may support the butt of the rifle, but may not touch the ground
    or mat and the rifle at the same time.

    If a shooter does not have cross sticks, there are usually several shooters present that will loan their range compliant sticks.
