    Swage press extended handles.

I need to make an extended handle for a Rockchucker press I'm improving. I had an extended handle made out of 3/4" round stock awhile ago. I have some 5/8 stock and can now machine my own stuff. Is it strong enough to make a 3' handle or do I need the 3/4 stock?

Oops, the auto think got me again that is a Swage press not a Sewage press.

Ok,ok,you got me. My tablet has a software that makes auto think words and it has a problem with the word swage. It took a while for it to understand swaging.

The threaded portion is only 5/8" if I remember correctly, so the 5/8" handle should be OK too, I imagine. Suppose it's possible it may bend some, but nothing ventured..............

With a 3' handle .. I would think the linkage on press would fail before you would bend the handle..

half asleep and i see that. im like, what?

but you have to remember that the press is most likely cast iron and you don't want to over stress it too much. the press itself would probable be fine, the link where the handle plugs in is thin though and the longer handle makes it easier to stress it more..

One pluss to using the 3/4" bar is it would have a shoulder to lock up against I=when installed in the press. For weight reasons a piece of 3/4 of tubing 1/8" wall thickness with a stud turned from the 5/8" Id on tubing will be 1/2" so 9/16 threads one end 5/8 other on the insert and tap one end of the tubing. A plug can be turned and pressed in the other end of the tubing to close it off. This would make a lightrer solid handle that's easier on the arm

My Rockchucker extension arms are a foot long, and thread right onto the standard arm threads when I remove the ball. I made my arm extentions from 2" diameter aluminum stock, and drilled and threaded one end for the screw on feature. The other end is rounded and polished so no blisters when I am doing swaging.

A word of caution, don't got too crazy with the length.
RCBS is constructed differently than Lee so YMMV. I extended the handle on my Lee Classic Cast for use with BT Sniper dies. Over 4" gave me too much leverage, and I broke a few lever collars. 4" gives my just enough extra leverage without the breakage. It also puts my hand just above the AES bar. The extra leverage can put extra stress on the linkages, etc. though.
