slick sided 6.5 135 grain for Hi -Tek or PC

    Hi,

I have been thinking about one for these bullets for awhile now so thought I would put the idea out here, I was thinking of keeping the bullet size down close to the .264 mark, bullet length 1. 160 ,nose .495 with a tinny flat nose of .05.

I was thinking it would be good for modern barreled 6.5x55 or 260, any ideas how this bullet would go with Hi tek or powder coating, I would like one for my Practical Hunting rifle competition rifle in 6.5 x 55.

    Regards

I can see there is some interest in the style of bullet I described but enough to get a group buy going, so was thinking I might have to go to lee and get them to make a custom mold for me but they are quite expensive for the set up tooling, anybody got any other ideas or company's who might be interested in helping me,

Does anybody know if lead bullet technologies will send Molds to Australia, I have been looking at their website and have some interest in getting them to build a custom mould but cannot find any mention of international postage.

224 views and no comments, I would have bet my left ball there would have been enough people interested in a mold like this, lucky I didn't bet, would have been walking lopsided, been working on a bullet design and have throat slugged my rifle, bullet size/mould still needs to be .264 but bullet could be shorter, under an inch and between 120 and 100 grain bullet.

I have no 6.5 guns so I would not be interested in this mold. As to Hi-Tek VS PC: Are you set up to do either one ? If so try it and if it works good, if not, try the other. I do both, and like both. PC is easier to start, Hi-Tek is a little harder to get to work the first time, but once you get it, it is faster than PC.

    Farmerjim,

Thanks for the reply, I am set up for Hi tec, I have bought my oven and other bit and pieces, my Hi Tec coating has not arrived so I rang Joe from Hi tec last week to see what the hold up was, he is flat out with all the orders he has been receiving, nice guy and happy to share his knowledge about the coating, looking forward to my first attempt.

Previously we had a group buy on a 6.5 mold but it never materialized due to cherries breaking with the long thin design, Miha might be able to update if he was ever able to find any success with the long 6.5 bullets.

    Ballistim,

That's interesting, I still think there must be a lot of people that would like a 6.5 bullet molds sized for the modern rifles, imagine how many 6.5 rifle there are in the US and Europe, would be good to here from Miha on how he has got on.

I was wondering if the cast bullet would need to be gas checked using Hi Tec coatings or just plan based, from what I have read the barrel twist 1.8 keeps the speed down around the 1900 fps max and I was thinking HI Tec would handle that speed, maybe someone might have the answer.

Because of the lack of interest I have made my own group buy, here is a photo of one side of the mould, 120 grain 264, I still have not cast or coated it yet but it sure looks good.
