I have used car clear on gun stocks and knive handles. It is very resistant to chemicals. It is a three part ,clear hardner and reducer. I have done a walnut rifle stock 28 years ago and it still looks very good. It’s clear as glass very shiny and a very hard finish. I have also used furniture laquer also. This stuff turns white when wet and not very hard, scratches easily. Car clear laquer is 100% better, a lot better than the furniture spray on finish you get at the lumber yard. The new three part car clears are even better but cost a lot more and only have a mixed pot life of around two hours. So only mix what u will spray. If you know any body that does body work you should be able to get them sprayed fairly cheep
