.308 Winchester with a Lee "soup can" C309-113-F

I'm looking for an accurate, perhaps 1 MOA, load with the Lee "soup can" boolit in a .308 Winchester Savage Model 11. I'd like the load to be in the 1500 to 1800 fps area. I've tried 2400@16g and the velocity was 1895fps and the group size was 1.4" for 5 shots at 100 yds. I could back this off a bit to lower the speed, but I have heard about Red Dot, being a good powder with this boolit, and I'm looking for all suggestions on powders to try. Thanks--Shuz

    Shuz, I think I'd try 9gr. - 10gr. Unique, 11gr. - 12gr. Blue Dot for starters with the "soup can," then 16gr. - 17gr. WC 820.

Shuz, 9 grains of Unique and the "soup can" works very well in my Savage 99 in 308. I get about 1450 fps with the 24 inch barrel.

Great boolit for pinking and small game hunting. I don't have anything for you at those speeds but there is very good accuracy to be had everywhere from 750 to 1300 fps, even plain based. 5.5 gr Red Dot on up. There is just a huge spectrum of loads ahead of you. I use this boolit when the grandkids want to shoot one of Pawpaw's big guns. Please post good results and loads.

Since I've got plenty of Unique, Red Dot and WC 820, I think I'll start with those. Thanks all, for the suggestions.

I had a load with WC846 that rang a 200 yard gong with ease. It was mid range 20-25 grains or so. That little bullet doesn't need a lot of speed.

For Red Dot try 8 grains to get in the 1550 fos vicinity.

My savage 116 hates that boolit ,won't feed well so I use 150/160/180 gr boolits with no problem .

My best load was Unique/11.0 grs, Rem 9 1/2 primer, Avg Vel 1688 fps. Best group at 50 yards was 3/4" for 5 rounds. Over all length was 2.346". This was a summer load. The bullet was sized .309. Winchester M70, 1:12 twist.
