280gr SSK style good for boar?

I was wondering if a 280-ish grain SSK style boolit at 1300-1350 fps out of a 44 mag would be a good load for deer and med. to large boar. it is going to be a plain base design, basically the #43-275d from accurate, but with a plain base, a .28 wide flat meplat with no rounded corners, thicker drive bands(.1-.115) and a .1-.115 grease groove. I will be using 20.5-21.5grs of 296, depending on where the sweet spot is. so , my main question is A, if anyone has used a similar design with success, and B whats the best alloy? I have a copper laced alloy that is too hard, I am going to water it down with pure to about 12bhn, I am shooting for about a 3-3-94 mix, with about .15%CU. does this sound about right? thanks a lot-Travis

A 280-ish grain SSK style boolit at 1300-1350 fps out of a 44 mag .

If the shot is placed well ( that is always critical , isn't it ? ? ), yes, I'd think that would work well.

    Good morning
Bores are getting shot with a lot less and becoming part of the dinner table.
I would shoot most any vegee type with a 285FN at those velocities. We generally compare modern pistol loads to the old BP rifle loads.
If a 38-55 rifle pushing a 255 grainer at 1250 fps was considered a great medium game thumper than your combination should be OK also.
You have more FPS and a fatter diameter... Says to me it will work just fine if well placed.

Another reason we built a 50 Alaskan ! Not many critters can intake a caliber 50 and still get down the runway.

I have killed them with a 22, it was what I had with me and I did wait for the right shot. If it is an accurate load and put in the right place you will have some fine eating.

I ended up getting the noe 432-277 keith, 3 cavity, aluminum. casts like a dream, haven't shot it yet, but have all the confidence in the world it'll do well on the hogs and deer. .33 mepltat and a med. soft alloy.
