    Swiss K-31's

Don't know if this is the right spot - I'm looking for a K-31 forum. I have a couple, and want to shoot them more, but would like some expert advice. HELP!

One of the most endearing sights in the world is the vision of a naked good-looking woman leaving the bedroom to make breakfast. Bolivar Shagnasty (I believe that Lazarus Long also said it, but I can't find any record of it.)

Loads (no pun intended) of K31/G96 threads on this forum with all kinds of load data for cast. Try running a couple of searches for "K31 load" or "K31 Boolits" and you'll get a couple weeks worth of reading. There's also a 'Swiss Rifles Forum' ( www.swissrifles.com ) with all kinds of historical and identification info as well as links to quite a number of other sources.

The RCBS 165 Sil works well with 16.5 grs 2400 and a WLR primer in Privi cases. The 165 usually casts at .309 and I size the gas checked bullet at .311. Only the check get sized but it shoots better that being sized than .309 which might have the sizing die lightly kiss the bullet also.

In my rifle the bullet is seated so that the front .309 band is just peeking out of the case. Loaded any longer and the bullet runs into the rifling and the bolt gets real hard to close. The bullet is just into the rifling and a rather force full working of the bolt is in order.

If the gun just goes click and the bolt rotates slightly because it was not fully closed do not rap the bolt forward, pull the ring back and pull the trigger again while aiming into your group because the bullet will not go there. You will have a flyer. Shoot it into the berm.

The first couple of times it did not go bang I pulled the bolt back and since the bullet was stuck in the rifling the powder dumped into the action. Now its give the bolt another rap forward, recock with the ring and shoot into the berm.

No secret that the K-31 is the most accurate .30 cal mil-surp there is. Superb with the right cast boolit. (I use an Eagan 165 grain mould MX3-30 cast 23 BHN. Eagan is long gone, but NOE has a good mould

I've saved a detailed treatise I found as a post on one forum or another about proper bedding of the K-31. It isn't what we consider "normal" here in the US of A. Do not have a link but could email if you're interested.

Also a detailed tutorial on how to take down the K-31 bolt. Link to it is broken, but I have it as an HTML document.

You haven't shot those up yet? I got its Krag sized bigger brother the MX3-30-ARD last week.

Yours are all gone except for half a dozen archival samples. But I kept an active search going on Gunbroker, and it eventually yielded me two lovely brass nose-pour moulds. One is 165 grain MX3-30KBR, the other 175 grain MX3-30KX. Both have fewer and deeper lube grooves than yours, but the 165 grain shot just fine. Haven't cast any in the -30KX. Health not too good so am doing no shooting at all except for pistol caliber boys' rifles in the backyard.
