Poured a lead hammer

You can make a hammer of a nice size with 3/4" copper tee wood hammer handle and a couple lengths of copper tubing. Pick up a 10 ounce ball peen hammer handle and fit the center ( single leg of tee to it squeezing in a vise to fit the oval of the handle). Cut 2 pieces of tubing 1" longer than the legs on the tee. A pipe cap can be used on one end. Use aluminum tape to seal plit and hose clamps to lock them on. Warm mould with a torch and melt lead. Pour into tube to full. when cool remove the tube ends and you have a hammer roughly 3/4" dia and 3" long. The lead heads will be 1" long and the tee helps reduce deformation around the handle.

Great post. I'll keep it in mind next time I wear out the lead hammer for my '82 Corvette. It has spin-off hubs and takes a heavy lead hammer to take off the wheels without scratching the spinners.

Great looking hammer and ideas. I am a little disappointed (couldn't work purple font) that someone hasn't used Hi-teck or some of Smoke's powder to pretty one up.

I understand Hensley & Gibbs manufactured and sold a lead hammer mould. Hammers purportedly made with it are generally listed on what is perhaps the most popular auction site, if you choose to check them out, with a buy-it-now price of $10.49 + S/H. Just as a thought, if someone on this site had said mould, or milled clone, I know I'd be in the market for an H&G hammer!

I use # 5 rebar as the handle thru the small tomato juice cans. I then grease up a piece of 5/8 garden hose and drive on the handle. I don't know what it weighs but you can smack the tar out of stuff with it.

I have used a number of handles off the busted kinetic bullet pullers to make lead hammers, seem to have pss poor luck with the darn things.
the pullers, not the hammers. aluminum cans of a suitable size and scrap range lead, works great.
