    5.7 X 28 Expander

I made this punch yesterday to expand the necks of the tiny 5.7 X 28. I should be able to make a 190gr bullet out of them. It took about an hour with all the trial and error to get the taper correct. Crumpled a few cases before I got it right. The punch is made for the Corbin "S" press. I bought an RCBS shell holder and use the reloading adapter to hold the brass. A little lube and good to go.

I was fortunate enough to snag a setup off ebay for my Walnut Hill for cheap. Had the expander & push through die & ended up being new to boot. Have found that I lose far fewer cases if I take the time to clean them with stainless tumbling first. Haven't tried to make any 190s yet, but maybe when I get the 300 BO barrel done I will. Been doing up 170 FN for the 30-30 & happy with the results so far.

My first go at expanding 5.7 cases was with a RCBS 7mm TCU resize die, the expander ball was designed to neck up .223s to 7 mm.
That worked ok until I tried to expand annealed 5.7 brass, those that did not collapse were left with rims deformed by the shell holder, then I made this set if innards to fit inside a Dillon powder die.

The expander is hollow and the expanded case can be ejected with an auto eject

Cool, it's great that people come up with different ways to do the same job.

I've just used a Sinclair neck expander. You get one die body and mandrils are about $10. My problem was getting a shellholder. I think I just used something I already had that worked. I made my own RCBS case trimmer shellholder cuz the only place I found that sold them wanted $20 plus $25 shipping. I passed.

I was hoping to make190s. 180s will work for me. I have 1903 A3 that likes 190s. Also want to make some 150s for the Garand.

I use an expander I got from BT Sniper for doing the actual expansion. I found by trial and error that all goes more smoothly if I expand BEFORE annealing.

Did you get to the 190 range? I'm waiting for the 300 BO pistol parts to complete my build and I want to try some 5 7 case projo's, however I don't know how exposed lead will feed.

I haven't had a chance to experiment yet. To many other things in the works.
