Need help with lube in mold cavities

I bought a mp mold last year from another member here and have just got around to really looking it over before I use it. The previous owner has used a lot of sprue lube and has it all over the cavities, What would you guys recommend to remove it? Thanks a lot for any help.

acetone, card cleaner, or brake cleaner and a tooth brush first. then hot water and dish soap with tooth brush to remove any residual residues, then lube as needed.

This is about what I do. Brake cleaner and a tooth brush on iron molds. Brake cleaner and a tooth brush followed by Dawn and a tooth brush on aluminum molds. And always be gentle around the cavities!

You folks that use break cleaner might want to read the MSDS sheet - it causes Cancer

What doesn't. Yes, it is good to read and understand the risks in using any chemicals.

A side note; there are two types of brake cleaner available The one for general use is the "non-chlorinated", it won't dissolve plastic. The "chlorinated" will dissolve some plastics and wire insulation, and tooth brushes. In my area CRC offers both, the non-chlorinated is in a green can and the chlorinated is in a red can...

I have to fully agree on the use of brake cleaner for cleaning molds along with the careful use of a toothbrush BUT use this stuff outside only!!

After I do a huge casting session and know that the mold will not see use for many months (or even years) I spray the mold down inside and out with RemOil for long term storage. When I pull it out for a casting session, a rinse in Acetone removes everything for a clean start.
I pre-heat my molds on a digital hot plate set at 316* C (600* F) while the pot is heating up, and get perfect boolits on the first drop every time...

Bullet casting is one of those things tha 90% of is learned by experience. Which is cool! You can cast up a bunch trying different methods and if there are any rejects, just drop them in the pot and try again. Casting is fun for me regardless if the output is 100 good bullets out of 100 pours or 25 rejects out of 100 tries...

Just use acetone....much safer than break cleaner.

You know what I find strange....a tooth brush handle is not affected by acetone....what are they made of ?
