Got to love small town tire shops

Got a tire shop in a small town about 12 miles from me. The owner is as honest as the day is long and I buy all my families tires there as well as some repair work on suspensions and drivetrains. Dropped off my pickup to have the front and rear u joints replaced. Called 3 three hours later that it was done. $140 total with Moog parts and when I paid the bill the owner said don't forget to unload your truck when you get home. 2 full 5 gallon buckets of unsorted WW were setting by the tailgate

Wow, that oughta be about 270# of lead. Hopefully you're in an area where most of that is still real lead. Very nice haul!!

I do errands, fix broken hammer handles and otherwise am available
for other nuisance activities at the local small town shop.

Oh, and bring goodies Saturday morning.

Sometimes, the guys even sort the weights !!!

They get all our business, except for big warranty covered stuff,
which is about to run out.

Nice! I miss living near a small town (was about 3 miles outside of town, range on the property, where I lived last.) And small shops like that make it better

Small town life ain't bad! I try to keep all of my business in town and the merchants act like they appreciate it.

Can you tell your mechanic friend to move near me

    My Tale
I took my f250 to get u joints replaced --it was making some noise and needed it that weekend for Camping

3 ujoints in the back section ( 4x4 not touched )

when I picked it up it was ok in the city ( but when I went on the hway it vibrated bad) had to get off at the first exit) and went to the garage the slow way
you have a tire out of balance -- I busy and can not look at it for a few days

    the short Story
Had to use the car to go camping

they bent drive shaft (I had to take in to another shop to get it balanced they added 3-1/2 oz to one side of drive shaft)
they put universals 2of 3 ( greasable) in the wrong way so you can't grease them -and did not use a torque wrench on the bolts

sorry your truck is old and we can't do anything-- no refund -- no pay for balance-

    Sorry for the vent
do not even use that gas station to even get gas now

    You have a great Mechanic

3 1/2 oz is a lot of waight to balance a drive shaft. I don't know how they would bend a drive shaft just installing u joints. Was the needle bearings all inside the caps if your missing a few it will do that. Torquing the bolts is no big deal clamping the unjoint caps. Just make sure there tight they really don't need torqued . Maybe they used the wrong u joints
