    I have a problem

I shot my new to me .54 Renegade today and did well with it. THEN the idiot in me decided to brush the fouling out before the hot soapy bath. I used a worn tornado 20 ga brush. It got stuck. I pulled hard, nothing. I pulled real hard. The threaded portion of the brush came out with the rod. Dang it- what now? I tried gently but firmly to take the breech plug out but stopped. Ideas?

Takes a good barrel vice and the proper breach plug wrench. Cost $25 plus return shipping at my shop to remove and replace breach plug on a t/c.

Get a piece of 1/2 inch copper pipe that's as long, or longer, than the barrel. Slide it down the barrel until the brush is inside. Then pull everything out at once.

The copper pipe used to go over the brass brush works. I made a 6 inch long piece of copper pipe and machined a threaded end out of brass that will screw into the cleaning rod and the machined brass was soldiered into the copper pipe and a cross pin thru the copper pipe and machined brass was installed to make sure the two parts stayed together. Keep the tool in my reloading bag for the muzzle loader.
Made this brush catcher 30 years ago and still have the thing in my reloading bag.

I wonder if you could make a screw type thingy like they used back in the day for removing stuck balls and patches? Might use some coke a cola to loosen the carbon. I like the copper pipe idea, we did a similar method for getting stuck borescopes out of engines, but we used garden hose,, tense times.
    Good luck

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll try the copper pipe first!

One more idea. Pour in a bottle of Sweet's 7.62 copper solvent and wait a day or two while it eats up the copper brush. This is an idea, not an experience!

I had a situation happen years ago that was very similar.
I was able to use a Patch removal Jag to get the old brush out.
Destroyed the brush, but at that point I didn't care.

That tornado brush may prove to be a different breed of cat than the routine bristle type bore brush. Hope the pipe idea works out for you. At a minimum I will follow this thread to hear how it works out for you.

I believe the tornado brush is stainless.

    .

FWIW, I used a 28ge bore brush ILO a 20ga, in my .54 Renegade - but I ALWAYS pre-wetted the fouling with Moose Milk (T/C #10 Bore Cleaner) before any cleaning.

It's an idea, but not a very good one...Sweet's 7.62 copper solvent is very strong ammonia. It says right on the bottle not to leave it in the bore longer than 5 minutes. It will pit even 416 stainless barrels in 10 minutes. Ask me how I know!!! If it were mine I would get the proper wrench and barrel vise and remove the plug or pay someone that has the proper tooling to do it. The factory puts them on way tighter than they need to be. I would want it taken off and put back on reasonably so I could take it off later if I ever had to with a wrench. It just does not have to be installed that tight.

Ok -1/2" copper pipe must be bigger in Texas ; it won't fit. The idea is a good one. Maybe refridgerator tubing or 3/8" type m pipe will work. I'm on it.

It's not the first time I've been in that trap, Mike!

Another to watch out for are the metric sizes... Life was so simple before when stuff was made to standards set by American companies that worked here.

Plumbers want all the pipe they can get, ID is their way.
Us refrigeration guys don't need all the pipe we use OD.
You need tube, it is measured OD.
