    Has Bass Pro gone mad?

While browsing through all of their way too high priced guns and reloading stuff, I had to stop and take a picture of this. It’s literally DOUBLE the price that it should be! Come on BPS, let’s reel your profit margin in just a little, huh? No wonder they have it in stock!

And I thought the Cabellas add was bad

I've been getting powder for around $20 at Bi-Mart (don't you just hate it when someone names a store you've never seen or heard of.) BiMart is a membership discount chain in the NW

Is it time to start stockpiling powder ????

Well, it kind of looks like the extreme form of capitalism that leftists hate.
But, a savvy person would know where to get it cheaper and stock up before every place else starts asking that price.

They have always been high enough in the store to turn me away. Add the sales tax and it is even worse. It isn't climbing like that at some of the online retailers. I just order mine now. Even with hazmat and shipping, it's much cheaper than BassPro.

30+ years ago Bass Pro was ok, not unlike Mid-Way. Then both became too rich for my blood and I very rarely buy from either one and, that would include Cabela's. Only when there is no other alternative. Don't know if it's greed or the cost of doing business but it seems odd when the few remaining local Mom & Pop stores can sell it for a lot less. Locally $10.00 a bottle less and some powders more than that.

The only local gun shop around me has prices that are comparable to Cabelas, but is farther away. One of these days I need to just throw down the cash and buy in bulk when one of these websites does the free hazmat shipping...

Around here, Bass Pro is the most expensive followed closely by Cabelas. Gander Mtn WAS the worst but they closed........ my LGS beats that powder price by $10 a pound at least.

I pay $24.20 for Reloader 19 at Bruno's in Phoenix. And it's in stock.

You should check out the primers. They will only sell them by the sleeve of 100 at $5 each that's $50 per 1000. A bit high. You can pay haz med and get it cheaper now.

The last powder I purchased locally was Varget during the shortage. Otherwise it is purchased on-line or the bigger shoots that have vendors. The hazmat fees are sometimes waved or reduced during promotions, but even if not, when spread over 50 lbs of powder and/or primers, they are minimal.

I just bought 8 lbs of Tightgroup and a lb of lilgun for about $160 shipped. That was a free hazmat deal. Works out to less than $18 a lb. Online is the way to go.

I can order it at the local skeet/trap club and get it with a clay delivery without hazmat.

The local Cabela's firearms and reloading section is in 'Dreamland'. The prices are similar to what's posted above. But I needed a 55# thrust trolling motor for my small boat. With credit card points 'rebate' Cabela's was cheaper than WalMart on the identical trolling motor. Both offered in store pickup. I have bought all my primers and powder on line when order size gave free hazmat. Powder averaged about $22 per pound, primers about $23 per thousand. When we attended gun shows, cheap powder and primers were always the goal. I have bought powder and primers for $18 to $21 OTD.

LOL and guys tell me they can get it cheaper at these places! My prices are too high. I'm thinking I could jack mine up another 20% and still be under them. Without looking in the book I'm thinking those prices are MSRP. I have powder delivered clear across United States from Black Hills Shooter Supply less than Bass & Cabela's.

I have a LGS close to me that has a good stock of powder at good prices. So I don't have to pay Cabela's prices, which is even closer to me. But man Cabela's has some good sales prices on other things if you watch. And Guns if you watch. Saw a Freedom Arms 454 Casull they had for $1600. Some one came in and traded a Super Blackhawk .480 and Super Redhawk .480 plus cash for it. They sold the Super Blackhawk for $550 (The SS Bisley with the 6 inch barrel) and the Super Redhawk SS Alaskan for $695. They both looked brand new. Of course I was broke while this happened or both of those Rugers would have been mine. There are always some good deals there. You have to wade through all of the overpriced stuff to find them.

The problem with these big stores is they have accountants and other bean counters. All those type worry about profit margins and clearly do not understand reloaders like me are cheapskates. Ohh well I have other places to buy reloading stuff.

Welcome to the world of increased Distributor Prices
I deal with a local reloading supplier that has more inventory than any of the box stores. Price for a pound of IMR 4350 last Friday - $35.00 plus NJ Sales Tax @ 7%

Want to be sick? After moving I'm still going through old invoices and stuff getting rid of things. Powder prices remain fairly constant for about 30 years. I mean it's pretty sad when you can get a 25 lb bag of chilled seven and a half Winchester shot for 9.89.then 2 yes later it is 25$ bag. I can remember buying shot and powder from Wiser's in National City Back around 1977 shot was 22-24 bag powder 18-20lb.
