I dream of longer barrels, but they don't seem to ever offer one long enough to make me buy it. A 30" heavy bull barrel would be great!

You can buy a red pad No. 1 in 45-70 or 458 Win that will be better made and have far, far better wood for far, far less money.

The one that always interested me was the Lyman Edition #1 Ruger in 45/70. The barrel length
of 1s make a neat package for a woods rifle but they stuck with Tropical style on the big bores
I always hoped for some long barrel models in 375H&H, 300mg and 45/70 set up for the Lyman
    sights.

Owned this one years ago, but lust for another rifle made me sell it:

Had a chance to buy one when they came out. Still regret passing it up, beautiful rifles. You are wise and lucky fellows!

I have two: a1B in .30-06 and a 1S in .45-70. I also bought a 1B in .25-06 for my wife. There are several more I drool over but with a limited income and at the age of 81.......they are just dreams.

Of the "rare" factory chamberings, I have a No.1V from 1993 in 22PPC which came with a Lyman 'All American' 25X scope. The factory barrel was only 23" but it shot brilliantly.

I had two, a #1B in 7mm Rem Mag that I put a nice Leupold scope and a Moyers Trigger. It was responsible for the largest White tail I ever shot. The other is a #1B that I sent to Selma and had it converted to 30-06 A.I. I put a 6x Leupold on it. As of yet I still have it. The last time I took it to the range I was shooting 2" high @ 100 yards, consistently, with a 180 gr. GameKing. They have to be the most beautiful rifles made...

Personally I like the little ones. I have one form early 1968 in .222 with a J. Unertl Vulture 10x43 scope. It's a fun shooting gun. I like that I can shoot it all day and not be sore for a week.

    I have a #1a in 300win, a #1b in 257rob, and a #1h in 458win.
I'd better start minding my p's and q's.

I was at the Kittery Trading Post several years ago and they had two next to each other in 218 Bee, I fondled them and walked away. Came back a month later and they were still there and I again walked away. What an idiot.

What killed the Lyman 45-70s is that they could not be used in BPCR matches (no hammer).

    The scope was also junk.
