4759 powder in 38 Special/357 mag.

Just curious, if anyone has used 4759 in the 38, or 357 magnum.
I have a long neglected 5 pound can, and I was thinking about getting it shot up.

This powder is no longer available and there are a lot of shooters who are looking for it. Put if up for a face-face sale and use the money to buy a better powder for your 38-357.

it is really too bulky for a pistol powder like 38 special and NSB is right on. Someone close to you will want it, and in turn you can get cash or trade for a much better powder for 38's.

Shooters have dreams about owning a 5 lb. can of 4759. You should be able to buy powder for the .38 for half of what the 4759 is worth.

Third edition of Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook:

Lists nothing for 38 Special......

Two loads for 357 Magnum:

158 grain RN (#358311) Starting at 10.0 grains for 874 fps and a maximum of 14.0 grains for 1189 fps.

168 grain SWC (#35842) Starting a 9.8 grains for 942 fps and a maximum of 13.5 grains for 1206 fps.

Nothing for 44 Magnum or 45 Colt. However, they list four, 44 Special loads. Bullets ranging from 205 grains up to 250 grains.
This is where I would find a use for it, if need be. I'm sitting on nearly 8 pounds of SR 4759 and don't really have much use for it.

I have used it in both my .357 and .44 but NOT in my .38 special.
Never had a problem with it. Just finished my last can of that powder.

I had to go back and look because thought I had tried it in 357
4" M65 357, 158 cast, cci 500 pr, 35*F, Dec 2002, notes say dirty/not accurate
6 shot averages
12.5-984 fps, 13.0- 999 fps, 13.5-1021 fps. Looks like I never tried it again in 357 pistol but found some really good loads with cast in 7.65 and 06

might be just the ticket with heavier bullets 180-200 gr in 357 mag?
