The Top Punch Chart I have indicates that RCBS #424 is equal to Lyman #649. #190 and #191
Which appear to be for a 45 cal. round flat boolit .
You can custom fit a top punch with Epoxy Putty . Easier still is use a flat punch...fill the cavity with epoxy and sand flat. Any bullet with a flat spot on it , WC , SWC, RF, can all be seated with a flat punch.

Thank you. Mold hasn't arrived yet but I do have the 191 punch so shouldn't have to mess with epoxy or a flat punch. Where can I locate the top punch chart that you apparently have access to???

You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who they think can do nothing for them.
If it is a flat point bullet and you cast for other FP bullets why not use a flat punch?
How simple can it be?
As simple as using the punch I already have instead of scrounging a flat point...
You don't scrounge a flat point. If you have any skills and a grinder you make one out of a punch you have.
Gee, I never thought of that. I'll head out to the shop right now, chuck up my 191 Lyman top punch (which I just happen to have) in a collet in my lathe and turn it into a flat punch. How simple is that? All I really ever wanted to know was a cross between an RCBS punch # and a Lyman punch # which is what the 2nd poster graciously supplied me with.
We learn from others and grow in our work/hobby---if we are lucky enough to associate with knowledgeable people in the first place. This is a great site. james
You can make all the fun of me you want. Since I went to a flat punch years ago I have never looked back when it comes to sizing flat noses bullets. Need just one punch for many different caliber bullets as long as they are flat nosed.
I was just passing along some information.
Sorry it wasn't what you wanted to hear but was trying to be helpful.
You are helpful, thanks for posting an idea / solution that most would not think of.

I have made flat punches using a bolt (1/4 or 3/16 diameter I think?) chucked in a drill press and a hand file to round off the hex heads. Then you can cut to whatever length you need. Works well if you don't want to sacrifice a perfectly good top punch.
