I’m interested in both of the new 500 groups buy molds I’m just waiting on price and approximate weight with the different hp pins

Is this the same mold? It won’t chamber, the nose radius was not steep enough, nor a bore ride.
    http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...02-600-Results
Nose length was .650 if it is the same.

Of course, if boolit diameter is less than the throats, by some force it will. Probably not good for accuracy, doubt this was intentional?

Yes, it is the same one. Not sure where the guys with problems got their problems.
I easily seat both both this 600 grain, and the 700 grain (and all other .502 molds, for that matter) with my Lee die set. I use a factory crimp die to set a rugged roll crimp.

This mold was intended to be merely a slightly shorter (and lighter) version of the T-Rex. The castings from this mold, as well as most of the 500 Magnum molds, need to get lube/SIZED. You won't have a bunch of luck just pan lubing these big boys.

Fastleo, I am expecting the prices to be the same as they were for the 700 grain. They are the same mold blocks, and similar machining work. But, still waiting for Miha to get pricing to me.

DukeInFlorida, I don't know about the seating die problem either. I was referring to msg #13 and #14 in the link. The boolit must be sized under the cylinder throat diameter in order to fit the cylinder. When seated/crimped on the crimp groove, the sized boolit extends in full diameter to beginning of cylinder throats. Unless one has larger throats, the boolit will be under the bore diameter then. For example, if I have .500 diameter throats, I must size the boolit to .499 to fit into the cylinder.

Obviously others may not have this problem if larger throats. I could solve this by sizing to .500 and then sizing the nose only to .499, ...or reaming throats to larger diameter.

I only shoot these in two guns (two guns is all I have to shoot them in!):
    • X Frame - S&W 500 Magnum with ported 6 1/2 inch barrel
    • H&R Handi-Rifle with 500 S&W Magnum barrel

These bullets assemble fine in my Lee Die set and load perfectly in those chambers.

BTW, I run these boolits in 50-50 (wheel weights, #2 Lyman, by weight, with a little lino < two to three strips> and a little extra tin added) alloy. I found that they ran better if a bit harder than normal.

I use aluminum and copper gas checks. The aluminum I make myself using .022 aluminum sheet, cut into strips. I have a complete set of Free Chex II dies and punches (and a couple of the newer style Free Chex III sets) for all the gas check sizes I use. Charlie Darnall was extremely helpful in tuning die sets for my use. I run them on an arbor press setup, with strip feeder, and for the smaller boolit sizes I get strip stock from IAN YERLETT, "Yonky". The copper gas checks for the .502 sized boolits I have used were Blammers "Gator Checks". Both work well.

I lube these bullets (and all of my 500 Magnum bullets with White Label's "Carnuba Red" lube. When I lived in Maine, it needed a bit of heater action to use that lube in my Lyman 450 Lubricizer. However, here in Florida, even with the A/C running in my reloading room, it fills well without the heater on.

As a test of the system, I once ran 1,000 shots of various boolit configurations, per the above, WITHOUT CLEANING. And, other than a grey waxy coating on the outside of the revolver, there was not a single shred of lead in the barrel. So, I am confident that my system works for me.

DukeInFlorida, that sounds perfect. Especially your gas check system.

I use Carnuba Red too, with some ad hoc external heater. Great lube.

Can I ask, have you measured your 6 1/2" S&W cylinder throats? Just curious, as a reference.

No, never measured the throats. Never saw a need to. For "competition" guns, where large prizes are at stake, perhaps that would be important. But, for the plinking I do with my one 500 S&W Magnum, my system, above, suits me just fine.

No, the deep pins are NOT happening for this mold set. As was suggested to John Ross, you can have a set made for your use by a local machine shop. We would never reach 30 mold orders on this one if we added in the longer pins (would need 30 orders). The longer pins that you get with the 700 grain mold MIGHT even be able to be used in this mold.

We are a whopping twelve orders away from Miha adding this one to his production schedule.

I have both the 700 grain and this 600 grain version of the T-Rex series of boolits. I can tell you that this 600 grain Mini-Rex is not the same as the bigger 700 grain version. It is very different. Many of us who own 500 S&W Magnums crave having every mold we can get our hands on for this gun. I am nearly as fanatical as John Ross is with regard to this gun. I currently own almost 20 mold configurations for this chambering. Early on, I even bought a Free Chex ][ gas check tool set from Charlie Darnall, so that I could endlessly make the gas checks needed for the vast production of these boolits. While somewhat taboo discussion in this thread, I even purchased swaging tools from BT Sniper to make large jacketed bullets for the S&W 500 Magnum, using 45 ACP cases as the donor jackets.

Point is that I am quite fanatical (abeit slightly less than John Ross' fanaticism) about the 500 S&W Magnum. So, I hope that you join me in seeking out every possible mold for this chambering. And, that, my friends, includes THIS mold for the 600 grain Lil-Rex boolit.

The cutter that makes the cavities is gas check only. I have added you to the list.
BTW, in the future, there is no need to add the spaces in your disguised email address. It's just more work for the honcho. Castboolits is pretty well protected against bots to begin with.
