You couldn't wipe the smile off of Denny's face. He loves his new rifle!
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

What the heck isn't to like!?!?!?!?! GREAT STUFF!!!! Although I never did understand the whackin' on a ball after it's seated.

He's new to muzzleloaders. He'll learn.

I think they do that so the ball won't sneak back up and out the muzzle when they're not looking.

there is something not good to be said about pounding and deforming a ball that's already well seated. however, bouncing the rod insures the patched ball is truly seated on the powder, and that some amount of powder compression is happening, and that the patched ball isn't hung up on chamber crud and not at all seated on the powder, which might not be a good thing for the barrel or the shooter. know yer gun and to each their own.
