Budget Bullet Puller

I find if I want to salvage j bullets with no damage the Hornady puller is the fastest with no damage. The plier method is faster but usually ends up with more damaged bullets. Hammer is
slowest and can be rough duty on some crimped ammo.

Those cheap 55 grain plinking J-words have weights all over the place! Good enough for target shooting though!

I just got done pulling basically 500 cartridges my friend gave me because some rounds in the first clip didn't return the bolt to battery.

Out of that 500:

1 cartridge had no powder
2 cartridges had seriously compressed loads
there were 3 different weight and 4 different types of J-Words
the [55 gn] J-Word bullets weigh from 54.1 gn to 55.4
there were 3 types of powder
A handful of bullets appeared to have been glued in
12 cases with damaged necks these I'll convert to 300 AC or 7.62x25
a couple dozen bullets practically fell out of the cases these I'll convert to 300 AC or 7.62x25
the [55 gn} bullets weigh from 54.1 gn to 55.4
Most appeared to have been OK but several would have been a problem

I've done this for years but I just use whatever pair of side cutting pliers that is close to hand. I use a bullet puller if I want to salvage the bullet.

If you size the hole right, 99% of the J-words are reusable.

I've had an RCBS since 1979 and still going strong. That being said they seem pretty much the same. I'd buy which ever one your local LGS sells.

I actually have to do this with about 24 44 mag loads that I sized at .430, and they leaded, so I am going to use a socket or pvc pipe to pull them, and have the expander already in the press, so I can pull expand, then seat a 431 ( which does not lead, I already know) I will have the seater ready in my 2nd press, so I can pull, expand, and seat, in three fairly quick successions.
