WTS Stevens 44 in .25-20 auction style

This is a friends rifle. He relined the shot out .25-20 with a new .25-20 liner, crowned it, trimmed it and chambered it to, of course, .25-20. He also replaced three or four of the action screws as some were missing. Nice trigger, although he didn't work on it. The rifle likes the Lyman 257420 with Trail Boss, 2400 and even 5744. He likes it, but he's 84 and is having trouble with cocking the hammer and working the lever. He thinks it could use a new action link as the lever at firing will recoil a bit, though this was helped when he replaced screws. He's just not as strong as he used to be! I've shot it and had no trouble with the hammer or lever, but then I'm younger.

This rifle is older than even he is and it shows lots of wear. But it shoots well with the liner and all. I'm new to Imgur (for photo hosting) so I'm struggling a bit with pics. Lets see how this goes.

There are cracks in the forearm as shown in the pics, but nothing is loose or in need of work. She's an old girl and thus is sold as is. But having said that, he wants you to be satisfied and will work with you to resolve issues. It's shooter, not a safe queen. There are no sights, just the scope bases. There is a front sight dovetail.

Well that seems to have worked. Terms are: this is an auction sale. Starting bid is $300, shipped to your FFL in the US. Bid by posting in this thread only. Any increment is fine. Payment is by USPS money order. Auction ends Friday, Feb 2nd 2018 at 6 PM Central time. After it ends we'll PM each other to sort out payment/shipping details. No trades are needed or wanted. Any questions, please ask before you bid.

    Thanks!

    Is that 25-20 WCF or 25-20 Single-Shot?

It's WCF, not Single Shot. He's measuring the barrel now, I'll get back to y'all.

No issue shipping to a C&R.

    Pic of the muzzle:

Sorry it's slightly out of focus. He a crowned it when he installed the liner of course.

    Pic of the breech:

[B]IMPORTANT NOTE.[B] After I took the breech pic, I noticed that the rear scope mount was held with one screw only. I asked him about it and he said that when he bought it there was a Williams peep sight mounted there. So when he went to install the scope mount he saw that the holes almost but not quite lined up. About 1/2 way. Not wanting to swiss cheese the barrel, he just used one screw. He figured it would hold up under the fierce .25-20 recoil.

Anyway, this is new data. Should have been in the original post. So you two gentlemen who've bid, if you want to you may retract your bids, no hard feelings. Just post here if you would so others know.

Oh yea, barrel length. It's 23.75 inches. When I hold the rifle just in front of the action in my hand (the way you would carrying it in the field) the muzzle is about six inches from the floor. I'm about five foot seven.

    Thanks.

We made no provision in the original post for someone picking it up instead of shipping, which we were going to eat. Sorry, just never occurred to me.

So Dakota, you're certainly welcome to pick it up, but we can't make any sort of adjustments to the terms of the sale.

In other words, a bid of $426 (at this point) will take her home.

No problem, I’d just as soon save him shipping fees. I need to stop by and see him soon.
