    .45-70, RCBS 45-500 FN, and H335

Anybody use H335 under a heavy cast boolit, in a .45-70? My boolits are clocking in at 530gr, and I’d love to have some starting points with H335. I’d also love to hear peoples’ opinion on the combo...I’m looking for around 1500-1600fps.

Glad to see your still enjoying that mold. I still have some of the 4064!

I hope your gun weighs at least 12 lbs as a 530 gr slug at 1500-1600 fps is going to knock the snot out of you when you pull the trigger.

Your gun is a Marlin and it is more like 7 lbs and it is going to hurt you severely. We have this discussion about every month.

The two shorter versions of that boolit are .45-300 and .45-405 and I shoot the .45-300FNGC which drops at 325 gr from my mould. At 1550-1600 fps it is more than adequate for anything on this continent. it will completely penetrate anything we have and most of what others have..

The .45-405 will completely penetrate a Cape Buffalo at 1300fps, or so I've been told.

If I was you, I'd start out at about 1100 fps and work up until I couldn't stand any more.

    Just sayin'

Haha...I hear ya. I’m no stranger to this particular boolit, and I do shoot it from a Marlin 1895. I have some nicely established loads that work well. I’m a stranger to H335 powder though. I know some folks use it under a heavy boolit, but it’s not a super common powder, so published data gets a little tricky. I was hoping to find others who use this powder and would be willing to point me in a good starting direction.
