RCBS 243 Winchester case forming dies

Curious, why would RCBS provide 243 Winchester case forming dies when the brass is readily available?

People prefer free or nearly sometimes.
Some folks carry frugal to extremes.

Probably first offered when the round was new on the market and they have never bothered to drop them from the list of available dies.

Back in the Good Old Days when surplus .308 brass could be bought at a few cents a pound, it would have been cost-effective to buy the dies and reform to .243. Now, not so much.

Somewhere around here I have a .30-06 to .250 Savage caseform die set. Been looking for that old Pacific ad that shows a .30-06 case with an impossibly long .250 neck sticking out of the sizing die. A testament to the power and strength of their new Super Deluxe press. I remember seeing it as a kid; can’t for the life of me find it now.

Could be. Some people just like to keep doing things the way they've always done it, too.

They list 7.92x33 from 30'06 form dies even though there are at least 2 companies that make loaded boxer primed ammo.

Some people believe they get the most uniform brass that way for accuracy's sake. Rick Jamison had an article about custom fitted brass for his 22-250 that he made from 30-06 military brass.

Mil-Surp 1x fired was cheap and easy to obtain, . When some of these rounds came out there was no SAAMI spec, they were wildcats originated from military rounds by people with time and money to do so. I knew a guy at work that had the 22-250 from 30-06 dies dating back to the 1960's, he was in the National Guard and had free access to spent 30-06 brass back then.

The RCBS custom die shop was originally a Huntington business that they bought. Huntington was one of the people swaging 22 caliber bullets from 22lr spent casings way back when.

RCBS stands for Rock Chuck Bullet Swage.
