That's a cool gun!
The S&W model 12 up to and including the dash 3 versions had a narrow grip frame and use special grips. The 12-4 share the same grip frame dimensions as all of the other K-Frames. If you have original grip panels on that gun, be careful with them because original replacements are very hard to find.
You're right about the loads, stay away from the hot 38 Special loads and that alloy frame gun will hold up just fine.
The 4" model 12's and a bit rare, you seldom see that barrel length. The 2" models with a round butt are a little more common.
Enjoy that cool piece of history !
I have a 12-nodash, 2". I shoot it from time to time using standard pressure hand loads with my soft alloy cast bullets. Model 12's are a nice addition to any inventory.
Nice find! Where are the pictures?!?!
I'm not sure where all the money is that I've "saved" by casting and reloading!
I don't known, how i put some pictures in the thread
I have a 12-2 with the 2" barrel. It's a great carry gun, but would love to find one with the 4" barrel too. I carry 140gr cast HP's in mine.

They are great airweights and 6-shot K-frames at that.
Wow, thats nice, I have a nickled 2" 12-2. I usually have Federal Nyclads in it or I load Speer shot capsules for it and use it as my "chicken gun". I often find snakes in my coop eating my eggs, although I came across a snake that ate a golf ball. Talk about constipation. My wife bought it for my birthday. I am very happy with it.
i had put some pics
That's a Beautiful Revolver !
Is that certificate in the 2nd photograph from the Proof House ? That's not something we see in America.
Yes is a proof certificate of Saint_Etienne France
That's interesting. We see proofmarks on European guns sold in the U.S. but domestically produced guns generally don't have proofmarks.
Does French law require that certificate in addition to the proofmark on the firearm?
yes ,normally since you modify an weapon ,change barrel, change caliber ex K31 passed in 30-284 ,i'm not sure but now
new weapons product outside passed by LIEGE belgium or germany ,i have bought an glock 3 years ago and don't have this certificate,i will put an large photo of the paper
Thanks, that's interesting. I know Europe has proofhouses but I didn't know they issue a certificate that accompanies the firearm that was tested. I just assumed they stamped a proofmark on the firearm and sent it out the door.
