I have a question about slings.
What width sling do you prefer?
I'm not sure and am heading down to measure some now.
1 inch wide
1.25 inch wide
1.5 inch wide

I was a NRA High power competitor for many years. The 1 1/4" military style sling ( leather more so than the cloth) is what I know and am used to using. Also narrower cuts into my arm and wider tends to slip when I'm slung in with the loop. Most don't realize a sling is for more than an easy way to carry a rifle.
I like 1 1/4" leather for a shooting sling. If I need a carry strap I like a 2" neoprene one.

High power shooter here as well. 1 1/4" leather for service rifle, and 1 1/2" double buckle for match rifle. As Country Gent mentioned, a good sling is essential to establish a hard steady position.
Montana sling for me as is easy to we it to carry and adjusts to loop up easily, no buckles to make a noise either.
anotherh high power shooter for the 1 1/4 sling.
Another 1.25" service rifle competitor.

I found a couple of very lightly used 1.25" Neoprene slings with full hardware. One even has 6 pockets for loaded rounds. It went onto the Win 94 dirty thirty.
The other one is currently on my .45 colt handi rifle.
I love both. Got both for a song. Easy on the shoulder, and they don't slip.
I like to sling rifle off left shoulder, upside down, muzzle down. Left hand goes to sling/gun to control it, walk it through the brush. Right hand is for me. A flip, a snatch and the sling is tight around my left arm, rifle is shouldered, left hand cradles the forearm and applys pressure on the sling. It comes up quick, gets rock solid right away. Not that I would likely ever use it again.
Still some old habits die hard.
'Nother old high-power shooter here...1 1/4" military slings but, lately, I've gone to nylon web as opposed to leather.
