Got a doe in our late season this afternoon. Used a Marlin 336 rebored to 38-55 shooting my home cast Accurate 38-250B, plain based, powder coat, at about 12 Bhn. Load was 32-3031 for 1600 fps. Caught the rear edge of both shoulders at 25 yards, with lots of bloodshot on the entrance side. Exit looked good. She mule kicked at the shot, took about 3 jumps and started stumbling, dropped in site in less than 30 yards. I think with that big meplat I'll drop velocity a bit for next year, under a big head of steam it can do some damage. 21-4198 with a bit of dacron for 1400 fps worked well last year and should be plenty for the heavy timber I'll use it in.
