Yes, you read that right. This is a 98 Mauser-Werke action that was sporterized into a 45-70 that holds 3 rounds in the magazine.
I am asking $450 for it shipped to your FFL. You must make sure your FFL will accept long guns from a private party. Payment by USPS money order works best for me. If you decide to pay by check I will not ship until check has cleared.
It is fully controlled feed so even though you can put 3 in the magazine you cannot ride the bolt over the 3rd and put a 4th in the chamber which makes it a 2+1.
The stock is a Butler Creek stock and the action is drilled and tapped for a scope and I have the correct mounts on it now that will come with it. You will have to supply your own rings.
I do not know who made the barrel or why they put the Mauser sights back on it once they had the new barrel on it. I do know that the guy I bought it from said it was a project gun and this was as far as he had got with it before he decided to go another route.
I bought it and shot it with cast a number of times but then it has sat in my gun safe unused after that so since it has gone over a yea without me taking the project any further I want to sell it to fund a different build I am working on.
It shot well with cast but it needs to have more pointed or round nosed bullets for it to feed properly. It does not feed flat point bullets properly, they catch on the edge inside the chamber. All the jacketed bullets I tried fed fine but with cast I used rounded or very pointy bullets in it and then it shot those just fine. I never shot anything heavier than lever action levereverlution level loads in it. I know it's fine for standard pressure 45-70 and it seems OK with lever action level pressure but I staid under that for my loads just to be safe as I have no idea what this actions top end is.
The recoil pad has a small chunck out of the bottom of it where I was shooting prone on rocks and the bottom of the pad caught on a rock and removed a small chunk of the rubber. I can post a picture of that as well as a picture of the scope mounts that are on it now if a serious buyer wants to see them.
I will add more pictures in the next post to this thread. If you have questions please ask them after that or by PM.
