    Siamese Mauser Stock

Can anyone point me to someone who makes a wood OR synthetic stock that will work on the Siamese Mauser? Slanted magazine presents a problem. Or, suggest someone with a pantograph machine that will duplicate the original military stock in a new blank. Not looking for a show piece but a hunting rifle rebarreled to .33 Winchester. Work already done on barrel.

Try Walnut Grove Gunstocks or Wenigs. Both should have patterns for Siamese Mausers. They will be partial inlets, not drop in.

I think that these guys still make the Saimese Mauser spotter stocks too. They still list it as a option.

Cool caliber choice! You can get close to .338 Win power in that very strong action.
Map55b- excellent as usual! What caliber?

Hello TX by God: Its in 45-70. I have another barreled action in 45-70 I need to stock, which leave one action left in the pile. I'm thinking 50 Alaskan because it sounds neat. I also have one each in 8x50 and 8x52 that are as issued and will stay that way.

Ticket Machine: What caliber is the one you plan to stock?

It is a .33 Winchesterbarrel still in the white but I wanted to fit a stock first. In addition, I have a spare action only and a full military rifle that I shoot (original caliber). I also have a custom .45-70 finished and it is too pretty to hunt with it so it is a safe queen right now. I will try to post some pics if I can figure it out.

Love to see them Ticket Machine. Which "original" caliber is your full military one in? 8x50 or 8x52?

Very nice rifles! Did you form the cases yourself? What was the processes?

I was lucky enough to find a set of form dies in an auction that also included a set of RCBS Full Length dies. I didn't realize it at the time but I could have used .33 Winchester dies for the initial forming. The picture here is of a .33 Winchester case on the left beside a loaded 8x52R. They are remarkably similar. Click image for larger version.

ID:	211068 I annealed the .45-70 cases after trimming them to 2.02" then used the form die and the trim die. I then used the full length size die and trimmed back again to 2.02. Last I turned the rim to .556. I have only done 25 or so since it takes a little bit of work. I was concerned that they may need neck reaming but they turned out fine. Rifle shoots great using a 198gr. FMJ made by PPU ordered from Grafs with 52.0 grains of IMR 4320.

That stock is breathtaking. My old 30-40 Siamese sporter that I did in high school is still killing deer down in Eagle Pass for a friend's family last I heard. Great actions.

I love the .30-40 cartridge. I have a Ruger No.1 in .30-40 and a 98 Krag sporter I hunt with. The extra action I have may end up as a .30-40 as well.

I used a Mcgowen barrel for mine and it would put 3 180gr Speer RN into less than an inch. I loaded it past maximum .308 Win levels in the Siamese. I envy your Krags, never had a #3 but did have a 98 Krag with a cut down forend, Lyman peep, and uncut 30" barrel. Of course I used sensible loads in it. I sure miss both of those 30-40s.

When I got my No.1 Ruger I compared the powder capacity at the correct bullet seating depth of the .308 Winchester and the .30-40 Krag, and the Krag case had 11% more capacity. Based on that I used .308 starting loads instead of .30-40 loads, and went from there. It was easy to get 2800fps with a 150gr. bullet but I ended up using a load at 2750fps since I was shooting at short ranges. I use 180gr. Power Points in my 1898 Krag sporter at 2450fps.
