How much brass is to much

Now that I have to move it all to a new house I think I might have too much...... When i first started I thought brass wore out much quicker than in reality...I have a ton of bags of range brass purchased from this forum that are still sitting awaiting usage. I've lost more brass to the shooting lanes than I've actually worn out. All pistol brass though of course, rifle is much smaller for me and still jacketed.

You will be glad you have it when you're settled in at the new place. I'd rather move buckets of brass than any containers of lead. I'm regretting loading 50cal cans up w/ bulk jacketed bullets.

Good thing I own both homes since I only moved half of the lead. It's only a couple blocks and I have casting equipment at both. At one I cast indoors with a hood, but under a carport at the other. Which I use depends on the weather.
My brass made the move with most of the equipment, so loading is done at the new place, which is my childhood home.

Well since it is straight walled you might not need to trim it but between swaging primer pockets and trimming a couple or three buckets of .223/5.56 brass looks like way more than I want, until I'm shooting it, then I be all about picking it all up, and any other you can find.

I keep a couple of coffee cans worth of some calibers I don't shoot. In times of shortage the primers or powder that cash money can't buy a thousand 45 acp cases just might make the deal happen.

I generally sell the brass I can't use here, it helps offset my own brass costs and puts the brass into the hands of a re-loader rather than a scrap yard. I don't bother with 40's or 9mm or 45 acp for the most part because they are worth less for reloading than the scrap price right now. I collected a couple cans of each and called it good.

At 285 rounds to the pound of Varget and 3 buckets worth of .223 I figure I need 9 boxes @ 1k each of primers and 32 pounds of powder to make those cases anything but scrap brass. Only about 90 pounds of lead so I at least have that covered. Little short on the primers still but way short of the powder.

You can only have too much if buying it deprives you of the funds to make it useful with the other components. On the other hand if there was this deal where you could pick up a pallet box or buckets of useful brass for cash today it would give you a target for the inventory of other components. It is how I'm going to justify that 8 pound jug of Varget in my future. "Need" it for all that .223 brass I got a deal on

I know nothing of this "How much Brass is too much" . Use it or not i scrounge the range everytime i am there. May use it someday, or it can be trade fodder, or if none of those. Just plain brass scrap. I have helped several folks by giving them some range brass to get into the reloading hobby. In my case there is no such thing as too much. Couple thou of each pistol and 5-600 for each rifle may last me my lifetime, but ain't taking any chances. Lol - CASTER
