I just added collards to the menu , bought 4 bundles at the grocery store yesterday coming home . Usually the store 'fresh' greens are wilted and trashy but these looked fresh picked . Stripped the stems and got em in a pot with 6 thick slices of good bacon cookin low and slow .

As all true Southerners, Black eyed peas and cabbage and some meat.

Boy, howdy! That all sounds like some purdy good vittles ('vitcuals' fer city folk).

We are having black eyed peas, ham, and cornbread. Pecan pie for desert. Might need a nip or three of Canadian Club small batch reserve (12 yr) or some Crown Royal afterwards -- and a nap.

When Sherman marched through the South, he scorched the earth killing domestic animals and burning all crops except the peas which he did beleave people eat. Black Eyed peas save many families from starvation.

Southerners eat them on New Years Day for luck and remember what the war criminal Sherman did. He would have been hanged if his side didn't win. There never was an uglier man, with a blacker soul, than Wm. Tecumseh Sherman.

Black Eyed Peas, ham and cornbread for me tomorrow. DIXIE FOREVER!

Starting New Year's Day with a 65 mile drive to have a Family Potluck Breakfast with Parents & Brothers, Pancakes,Waffles, Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Hasnbrowns & Eggs. When we get home the plan is Hopping John in the Instant Pot with Skillet Cornbread.

Pork and sauerkraut. To eat anything else on New Year's Day brings bad luck for the year.

I am going to my sister's house for the day. Not sure what she is fixing, but I am taking tamales and pecan pie to add to the menu. It will be the first time in years that my daughter (that is on active duty in the Navy) will see her cousin that is also on active duty in the Navy.

Collards prepared with smoked Hog Jowl, Hoppin' John (Black Eye Peas) and Cornbread. We had some leftover Sweet Potato Pie that we'll have for desert.
