    Live From The Stand

Ready on the right. Ready on the left. Watch your lane.

Winchester model 71. Powder coated H&G HP bullets in front of Benchmark powder. I am Jonesin' to whack a deer with this bullet. Got my first elk with this rifle using my Lyman cast bullet. There were a lot of does and bucks on the game camera 75 yards to the right of this stand the week after thanksgiving. I checked it on the way in today after not hunting in this area for 2 weeks and boom- virtually nothing.

This is a great stand for this rifle. The stand is on the top of a long ridge. Thickets in front of and behind me. 75 ayard shot to my right. About 45 to my left. Lots of crossings. A friend of mine got a 6 point off this stand right after thanksgiving. It was right after we put it up.

Thanks for the comments. Didn't see anything. We have had a guy trespassing on this land. Pretty sure he has messed up hunting here. I didn't see but 2 deer on the game camera for the last 2 weeks. I pulled the card this am on my way in. I have the game warden on him. Long story there! I will probably post a nice story about it once they put him in jail. I mainly went hunting here this am to pull my memory cards for the game warden and to get GPS coordinates of the cameras for the DA.

Nice rifle; Winchester or Browning? Good luck on bagging your trespasser, looking forward to hearing the rest of the story.

Congrats on a fine hunting rifle! I lucked into a minty one earlier this year, not sure if I'll ever take it hunting. Scored some ammo a little while back but unsure I'll ever cast or load for it. Will PM for load and mould data.

They freak out at the sight of a M71. Need to carry it to the stand in a case.
I have a similar problem with .338Marlin Express.
I haven't shot a deer yet with the stainless MXLR. I've killed deer with the blue/Walnut .338MX with jacketed and cast. They laugh, thinking it's "just" a .30/30!!!

Not to demean the .30/30. Got three and have killed numerous deer with them.

I think .348 Winchester. Seems to be popular this year, another fella on here killed a very nice buck with one up in Maine a little while back and posted about it.

I'd love to have one of those someday, just too many things in line ahead of it still.

.348 Winchester. Hensley and Gibbs Number 82. Factory HP and powdercoated. Fueled with Benchmark powder. Very good shooter.
